So… we have arrived at the silly season! This is one of my favourite times of year with the warm weather and time with my family, but to be honest, it can get a bit hectic.
It is a time where we can put so much pressure on ourselves and fall into the pressure we feel from others to be all things to all people.
Although I steer away from giving people advice on how to do their life I do lean into how can I support people. So… I am going to share with you the best technique I know for managing acute stress, overwhelm and anxiety.
It sounds so simple that I really struggle to get people to embrace this as a healing tool but 10 present deep breaths shifts your energy…
It stimulates a relaxation response bringing about changes in your physical and emotional state.
When eliciting the relaxation response:
* Your metabolism decreases
* Your heart beats slower and your muscles relax
* Your breathing becomes slower
* Your blood pressure decreases
* Your levels of nitric oxide are increased
All of these responses support you to become present in the moment and reboots your system with renewed energy and calm.
So, if over this season you are being triggered by a family member, struggling with the energy of Erina Fair, feeling pulled by your kids in multiple directions or struggling to wrap all those presents the night before Christmas please take 10 deep breaths. I promise you will feel so much better for it!
